The
Deptt. Of Neuro
Surgery at IGMC, Shimla came into existence in
1994 when
Dr. Kashmir Singh Rana and Dr. R.C. Thakur were working
as Asstt. Professor
in the Department of Neuro-surgery. Prior to it both the Neuro-surgeon were working in collaboration with Department
of General Surgery since 1990 and 1991 respectively.
The Department expanded after creation of 2 posts
of registrars for the Department initially Department
worked very hard in order to
cater to the entire workload of neuro-surgery
patients coming from entire state, being the only
referral center for neurosurgical services. Dr.
Kashmir Singh was promoted the post of Prof. &
head.
In the year 2001
subsequently Dr. R.C. Thakur
was also promoted to the post of Prof. in December
2005 and took over as HOD w.e.f. March 2006 to
30th June 2009. Now Professor Kashmir
Singh resumed his duty in the Department as HOD
since July 2001.Recently he has taken over as
senior Medical Superintendent at IGMC Shimla.
During
this period the Department was able to create
total of 6 posts of registrars/resident doctors
in the Department in addition to two more posts
of consultants. The Department was allocated 12
beds for indoor patients in 5th floor
of C block. In year 1994 besides these beds no
of patients are kept in causality Ward (i.e. 6
beds for surgical specialities)in
addition to patient who were kept in casualty OPD for observation
due to increasing work load of the Department on an average 5 to 7 cases of Neuro-Surgergical emergencies report to IGMC Shimla daily.
Besides
30 to 45 patients who attend outdoor Department.The
department has recently purchase operating microscope
and has strated doing
Micro-Neuro surgical
processors with the help of operating microscope
and C-Arm (Image intensifier) for the last one
month.
