Himachal Pradesh
is a mountainous State in the lap of Western Himalayas. It is nested
with high
mountains , peaks and passes , green valleys , deep gorges
with turbulent rivers, lakes , forests
of pines, oaks, apple orchards, and above all snow and glaciers.
From the times immemorial, it is
known as 'Dev Bhoomi'- the "Abode of Gods". It is also
the most peaceful and least polluted State
in India. Ravi , Beas, Satluj, Chenab, Chandrabhaga and
Yamuna flow gorgeously through the
State. It provides ample opportunities for winter
sports, trekking and aero-sports. The State is endowed
with scenic beauty.

Shimla
is the capital of the State which
has glorious distinctions of being the summer capital of British India
and still known for its elitist schools.It is also adored
as
the
queen of hill stations and it
attracts tourists all
around the year from India and abroad. Shimla is about
400 Km from Delhi and is well connected by air, rail and
road to all parts of India. It is situated at an altitude of 2200
meter and latitude 31o 68' N, longitude 77o
13' E. The temperature ranges between 14oC to
28oC in summer and 3oC to 10o C
in winter.
The State
has three Universities including Forestry and Agriculture,
two Government Medical
Colleges and one Government Dental College.
There are a
number of tourist attractions in the state. The main places of interest
include the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Kufri, the golf
course at Naldehra, the Gaiety theatre, Chail Palace, etc.
