INDIRA GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE SHIMLA
- Himachal Pradesh Medical College,Shimla,now known as Indira
Gandhi Medical College, Shimla with its changed name incorporated
vide Himachal Pradesh Govt. Notification No. HFW (Cha) 4-3/84,
dated 7.11.1984 strated functioning in August,1966 in the old
Snowdon Hospital building with 50 admissions.Subsequently, the
admission capacity was increased to 65 in the year 1978.The new
College building has also been constructed and occupied recently.Some
buildings are under construction, which will be available for
occupation.The institution is affiliated to the H.P.University.
- Indira Gandhi Medical College & Hospital,Shimla,Kamla Nehru
State Hospital for Mothers & Child and Institutions of Mashobra
Block are associated with this college for the purpose imparting
practical training to the graduate students.
- I.G.M.C. Shimla Provides a course of study for MBBS Degree of
Himachal Pradesh University. The period of course spread over
4 and 1/2
years followed by one-year compulsory rotator internship.
The students are eligible for MBBS degree only after satisfactory
completion of the course and the internship training.The course
is subject to amendments by the Medical Council of India and Himachal
Pradesh University from time to time.
COURSES
Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla is affiliated to
the Himachal Pradesh University and the college runs a number
of Graduate and Post Graduate courses. Admissions to these
courses are made as recognized/permitted by the Medical Council
of India/Himachal Pradesh University strictly
in accordance with the conditions laid down by the MCI and
the State Government.

SCHOLARSHIPS/PRIZES FOR MBBS STUDENTS
The following stipends and merit scholarships are sanctioned by
the Himachal Pradesh Government for students in the college:-
1. The students belonging to Antodaya Pariwar/IRDP are entitled
for an annual financial assistance of worth
Rs.5000/- and Rs.1200/- for hostlers on
the production of Antodaya Pariwar Card/IRDP Certificate
issued by the competent authority.
2. Two scholarships amounting to the Rs.400/-p.m. each for the hostler
preferably belonging to Rural Area of Himachal
Pradesh is awarded by R.S Amin Chand
Memorial Trust, Ekantwan, Dhalli, Shimla
12 in MBBS course.
3. Two scholarships of Rs.25/- p.m. each to two
Himachali students in order of merit based on the number
of marks obtained in the entrance test will
be awarded for one year or till the examination for 1st
professional MBBS is held whichever is earlier.
4. Two Scholarships of Rs.25/- per month for 16 months to two students
on the basis of merit at the result of the
first Professional MBBS examinations.
5. a)Two scholarships of Rs. 25/- per month each for 16 months MBBS
to two students on the basis of merit at the
result of second Professional MBBS Examination..
6. A gold medal will be awarded by Shri Neeraj Kumar, Solan
every year to the student standing first in the
subject of Community Medicine in MBBS Annual Examination
in IGMC, Shimla.
7. A gold Medal in the name of "Dr. Kranti Mohan Sharma Memorial
Prize" will be awarded every year by
the Himachal Pradesh University to the
students securing highest marks in the aggregate of
annual final MBBS Examination of Himachal Pradesh
University in IGMC Shimla.
8. A Gold Medal Prize in the name of "Dr.Devi Chand Memorial
Prize "will be awarded every year by
the Himachal Pradesh University to the student standing first in
Medicine in Final MBBS Examination in IGMC
Shimla.
9. A Gold Medal in the name of late"Dr.H.C.Suri"
will be awarded every year by Mrs. Sita Suri to the
student standing first in surgery in the annual Final MBBS
examination in IGMC Shimla.
10. Dr. Devi Chand Memorial Oration" will be organized by
the college every year on the occasion of
the Annual Day. The intellectual of National/International
fame will be invite to participate therein,
in IGMC, Shimla.
11. "L Ishwar Dass Dawar Memorial Gold Medal" will be awarded
by Shri Trilok Chand Dawar to student
securing first position in Obst.
And Gynecology subject in Final MBBS Examination in IGMC
Shimla.
12. "Late Shri Dina Nath Khullar Memorial Gold
Medal" will be awarded by M/s R.k. khullar Co.
C-203, naraina Industry (Manufacturers of Surgical Equipment
and Instruments).New- Delhi -28 to
the students securing first/second position in Surgery in
Final MBBS Examination in
IGMC, Shimla.
13. "R.S. Amin Chand Memorial Gold Medal "will
be awarded to student maintaining best position throughout
the MBBS studies/career in IGMC,
Shimla.
14. A Gold Medal donated by Smt. Shanti Bhargava
will be awarded to a student securing first position
in the subject of Pharmacology every
year in the name of "Late Shri C.B.L. Bhargava"
in IGMC Shimla.
15. Scholarships in the form of Prize of Academic incentive will
be awarded by Mr.M.M. Walia and Dr.
(Mrs.) S.J. Walia in the memory of their late son Sapan Walia
for standing first, second, and third in
the first and second Professional MBBS examination for a duration
of 18 months in the value of
Rs.300/-,Rs.200/- and Rs.100/-P.M. respectively. Recipient students
must have passed his/her 1st
and IInd Prof. MBBS (Annual) Examination in the first attempt. This
scholarship/prize recipient will
have no bar for getting any other merit/State stipend/scholarship
in IGMC Shimla.
16. i) A scholarship worth Rs. 1000/- P.M. will be
awarded to a needy and deserving student admitted to the
MBBS course of study in IGMC, Shimla
upto term of 41/2 years awarded by Shri Manohar Lal
Sikka in the memory of Late Smt. Bhushan Sikka.The
selection of this scholarship shall be made
by a committee appointed by the Principal which shall also include
one nominee of the person instituting
the scholarship.
ii) A scholarship worth Rs. 1000/- P.M. will be
awarded to a needy and deserving student admitted to
the MBBS course of study in IGMC Shimla, upto
term 4 ½ years awarded by Shri Manohar Lal Sikka.The
Selection of this scholarship shall be made by
a committee appointed by the Principal which
shall also include one nominee of the person instituting the scholarship.
Note: No student will be eligible to draw
more than one stipend/scholarship/financial assistance etc., except
merit scholarship of the college, if any. The loans taken
from the bank will not be discontinued.
FEES AND SUBSCRIPTION FOR MBBS STUDENTS
1. For Govt. Institutions:
Newly admitted students must pay their fees in full
within the prescribed period, which will be notified by the college
office.No student's name will be enlisted in attendance register
unless he/she has paid the prescribed fees.The seat of the student,who
does not pay the fees within the prescribed period,shall be declared
vacant and filled by admitting another candidate on the waiting
list.

Hostel Security of Rs.1,000.00 to be charged only

NOTE: The fee structure can be changed by the Govt.
from time to time which shall be applicable to all the new as well
old students.
1. Fees will be charged for full calendar month and
not any part thereof. The total College and Hostel fees will
be paid in two installments in the month of March and September
or as notified or of the 2nd,3rd, 4th,5th year
students except newly admitted first year students. The first installments
of college fee will consists of half of the Tution
fees and all the private charges and the second installments will
be charged with the remaining half of the Tution
fees. The first installments of hostel will be charged half of the
hostel fees inclusive of electricity and water
charges and heating charges plus the remaining other charges in
full. Second installments will consist
of hostel remaining fees inclusive of electricity and water charges
plus heating charges.
2. The fee should be deposited by 15th of the month
in which it becomes payable without the late fees and
up to the last date of the month with the late fees of Rs.10/- per
day. No notice will be displayed for depositing
the college/hostel fees and it will be students' responsibility
to pay the dues in time. Failure to pay all fees
and other dues in full by the last of month by which they are payable
shall automatically entail removal of the students
name from the role. He/She however may be re-admitted on payment
of arrears of fees plus re-admission fee of Rs.500/-.The Principal
is however empowered to grant exemption of fine
in deserving cases. Note:- Should the last day fall on Sunday or
a Holiday the fee shall be payable on the next
working day.
3. Fees once paid shall not be refunded but in the
case of students who are prevented by illness or for other
regions beyond their control from attending the college in the year
for which they paid usual fees, The principal
may direct that the whole or the part of the amount of fees shall
not be again paid for the year in which
such the student join the college.
a) Regarding refund of fee in the event of shifting/migration
of student from one institution to other institution,
it will be refunded/adjusted in all Govt. and private institution
provided such shifting/migration takes place within
the stipulated last date of admission i.e. before 30th September.
b) After the close of stipulated date of admission,
no refund shall be allow in the case of shifting/leave of student
from any of the institution unless the resultant they can see is
filled by the institution.
c) Regarding collection of the fee for the entire
course i.e. for all years, the educational institutions will only
charge prescribed fee for one year/semester if
the institution feels that any of the students may leave in midstream,
than at most, it may require that the students give a bank guarantee
if the student leave in the midstream.
d) Remand fee: will be charged from the students who
fail in semester/yearly examination@Rs.2000/- per subject
per student or as decided by the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
4. The students seeking admission first time to the
hostel shall pay the room rent from the month of admission
at the rate of Rs. 15/-per men sum along with the caution money
of Rs.150/-for admission for the hostel.
5. The rules pertaining to the non-payment of college
fees apply to the non-payment of room rent as well with
the difference that the re-admission fees for the hostel will be
Rs.15/- i.e. equal to months room rent.
The room rent once paid shall not be refunded on any account.
6. In addition to fee prescribed above an admission
fee of Rs.25/-per head will be charged from all migrants,
after passing the First Professional MBBS Examination recognized
by the medical council of India and from those
who leave the college and are re-admitted afterwards.
7. A remanded student including final year will be
charged a fee of Rs.50/-for one subject plus Rs.10/-for each
additional subject which he/she is required to attend under the
college rules or university regulations for the
period of remand. In addition to this he/she shall be charged a
practical fee of Rs.15/- for MBBS examination
and a hospital fee of Rs.20/- if required to do the hospitals practice.
8. Securities not claimed within two years after
the student has left the college will lapse to the Rogi Kalyan
Samiti Funds after deducting their from the amount ,if any, recoverable
on account of arrears unpaid hostel/college fees
or any other charges.
BOND, STIPENDS AND AN UNDERTAKING for GDOs'/POST GRADUATE STUDENTS
The candidate selected against Direct/GDO quota are
required to execute a bond along with affidavit to the extent of
Rs.5.00 lacs to serve the state for a period of at least three years
including one year compulsory service in NRMH institutions in the
State after completion of the course, failing which Direct candidates
shall refund the entire stipend money in lump sum within the period
of one month failing which panel interest will be charged and in
the case of GDOs' the entire period of their courses shall be treated
as leave of kind due. In the event of leaving the course in the
mid-session, direct candidate shall refund the entire stipend in
lump sum within the period of one month failing which panel interest
will be charged and in case of GDOs and direct candidate shall be
debarred from seeking admission in any other subjects for a period
of three years from the date of leaving the course. Every selected
candidate under-going post-graduate degree/diploma course in the
college under direct category of seats will be paid a monthly stipend
as sanctioned by the H.P. Government from time to time as follows:

Candidates selected through All India Entrance Examinations
will be given stipend only if they fill-up the required bond.

(i) No candidate will be allowed to draw more than one stipend/scholarship/financial

(ii) All the post graduate students (Direct and
GDO's) shall be entitled for 30 days leave only per academic
year during P.G. course. No carry forward to leave
shall be allowed. Undertaking: - The General Duties
Officers will have to give an undertaking to serve at the remote
and interior institutions under the NRMH
as notified by the State Govt. for a period of 1year.

2. Examination fee as may be fixed by the University
from time to time.
3. Post Graduate students residing in the Hostel
shall have to vacate the Hostel after completion of course.(36
months Degree or 24 months Diploma) However,a
grace period of 7 days will be given/allowed after
the completion of the clinical/Practical examination.In
case of candidate fails to vacate the Hostel beyond
the prescribed period, he/she shall be liable for penal rent@Rs.100/-per
day for one month and rs.300/- per day subsequently.
