Following are some of the facilities provided by the Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla.

The hospitals attached to IGMC have total bed strength of 872. Expansion plans are going on despite the constraint  of land in  hilly terrain of Shimla. New  OPD block in IGMC has been made operational and now the patients has better sitting place in sanitized environment. The new OPD block which is named as E block was dedicated to the people of the Pradesh by Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Virbhadra Singh Ji on 19th November 2005. The Kamla  Nehru Hospital has now been named as State Hospital for women and Children providing facilities in Obstetrics and  Gynaecology and Neonatology. New indoor  block in main  complex has been  completed and  a separate examination  hall has also been provided. The  hostel  facility  has been provided and rooms have been alloted to students at Blessington and more blocks are to be added in very near future.The college now provides the facilities of  "Open Heart Surgery"  for the benefit the poor patients requiring this facility, thus saving money and time.

The state of the art MRI facility has been started this year with the dedicatication of this facility to the people of the Pradesh by Hon'ble Chief Minister on 26th January 2006.The computerization of IGMC is on and soon most of the departments will be fully computerized. A six bedded ICU is also under construction.

This college is also imparting training to Nurses, Radiographers, O.T. Asst., Para Medical Ophthalmic Assistants and Laboratory Technicians. Indira Gandhi Medical  college is one of  the few colleges in India to have fiber optic endoscopy and C.T. Scan equipment.Closed heart surgery including pace maker (insertion is also available).
